The work served as a model for the piece of artwork, reproduced in engraving in "The Golden Book of Victor Hugo by the elite of artists and contemporary writers Directorate Emile Bremont." At the entrance to the museum, it was framed with the greyness of his brother Lucien, representing "Don Cesar de Bazan" (MVHPP0234.2), the two works are clearly designed as pendants.Le painter was inspired by the traits of his father, actor Stephen Melingue, who had held the role during the repise of the play in 1870.
