Executed in May 1825 during a trip that Victor Hugo was in Reims with Charles Nodier and the painter Jean Alaux, at the coronation of Charles X. It was donated by the painter to Madame Victor Hugo, which was obliged to separated since 1834, the poet was donated by Juliette Drouet as evidenced by the inscription on the back.
